Although orthodontic treatment may be medically necessary for your teenager, getting them to commit to an appointment may be harder than you first thought. Teenagers are often closed off to change, as well as hesitant to alter their appearance, especially in the age of social media and selfies.

If your teen needs orthodontic treatment can refuses to be fitted with traditional braces, it's okay, because there are other forms of treatment available.

One of these forms in Invisalign.

Invisalign is a form of treatment that uses invisible aligners to move the teeth into their correct positions.

A recent survey from the Sacramento Dentistry Group found that there are many benefits to teenagers wearing Invisalign for treatment. These include:

  • Advantages: There is no metal used in the braces, instead made our of clear plastic and personalized for each individual wearer. Due to their makeup, they are often thought of as more comfortable than traditional braces. They can also be removed when necessary, such as during a sporting event or senior pictures.
  • Confidence: With a straighter smile, teens are more likely to feel better about themselves and their appearance. 40 percent of teenagers said braces would have a negative impact on their self-confidence, but only 13 percent of Invisalign wearers had the same opinion.
  • Effectiveness: The study found that Invisalign is just as effective when it comes to treating orthodontic issues that braces are able to treat as well. When worn for the standard time, between 20 and 22 hours a day, Invisalign can be extremely effective at straightening teeth.
